I produced a comprehensive Network Engineering Guidelines manual. This manual
provided for multiple target audiences (contractors and the company’s own
engineering group). I was responsible for coordinating program installations,

Consulted/Designed/Implemented
a
facilities computer network for a major defense systems manufacturer. The
network requirements included maximum scalability, flexibility, and
reliability for a large (1000+ node) campus facility. I was responsible
for producing the design, the design document (RFP), and our own response to
the RFP. The network integrated multiple buildings over high-density fiber
cable plant forming multiple redundant switched FDDI rings. The infrastructure
also included both Ethernet and Fast Ethernet hub connections. The network
included using multiple computing networks - Novel Netware and HP UX as well
as connection to an IBM SNA host. Active electronic components were based on
large-scale mixed media switching hubs (MMAC 14+) from Cabletron. The
consulting and design was $50K with implementation of the network following
(without competitive bid) at around $1M. ·Honeywell IAC -
Consulted/Designed/Implemented
a
refinery computer network for a well know sugar producer. The network
requirements included connection to diverse areas of the refinery: raw
material container ship dock to all steps of the refining process to finished
packaging and administration. The network infrastructure encompassed both
harsh and office environmental conditions. The network intent was to provide
the support for rollout of specialized client server manufacturing
applications (on Netware and MS NT) as well as connectivity to existing
devices (scales, time clocks). The network backbone was a dual
counter-rotating FDDI ring utilizing Cabletron hubs and bridging
modules. The consulting and design engagement was $30K resulting in a
deliverable document in the form of an RFP, which detailed the design for
competitive bid. In competition for implementation was awarded the contract
($250K) at a premium (we were not low bidder by $25K) because of the in-depth
understanding of the issues and the confidence in previous consulting
engagement. ·Honeywell IAC – Consulting Engineer for an engagement ($45K) at a major
chemical derivatives producer. I was responsible for baseline analysis
of computer network traffic based on empirical data collected. I utilized
Concord Trakker for traffic element monitoring. This data along with expert
analysis was used to produce a recommendation report reflecting the impact of
proposed technology rollouts on the network. The consulting report included
recommendations on a number of areas: server connectivity planning; resource
and distribution planning; high speed (100Mbps) connectivity to key areas;
implementation of redundant fiber links; the design and implementation
of flexible control room network infrastructure; review of elements of
the EDMS (Electronic Document Management System) deployment; and planning for
client/server host system placement. ·Control Data Systems -
Designed/Implemented
a
computer network for a division of a Fortune 500 company, which manufactures
automotive products. The network integrated front office as well as plant
areas on a fiber backbone Ethernet infrastructure. The network included using
multiple computing platforms (Compaq - Novell Netware, HP9000 for UNIX) using
both IPX and TCP/IP. This was a $100,000 network supporting 75 nodes
with active hub components using Synoptics (Bay Networks) hubs. ·Control Data Systems - Visualized
and produced an animated multimedia
presentation for the national sales meeting of a major flexible packaging
manufacturer (Revenue in excess of $30M). ·Control Data Systems - Conceived and
developed a specialized
application for a law firm to accomplish the forms processing of RTC - Resolution
Trust Corporation documents resulting in raised efficiencies and cash
flow. The RTC legal billings were as much as $500,000 a year and were
extremely labor intensive in producing the required government documents for
payment. I developed the RTC windows forms and interfaces to a variety of
databases. ·Control Data Systems - Designed a $250,000 network for a worldwide
organization using multiple computing platforms and specialized in producing
process color magazines. Increased productivity was the result of universal
connectivity between artists, editors, pre-press, order processing and the
management of their documents. ·Control Data Systems - Visualized
and produced the multimedia
presentation of the findings of a $50,000 consulting study for a national
printing company. The presentation convinced the company to adapt the
findings and undertake a three-million-dollar project to re-engineer their
business and infrastructure. OTHER SIGNIFICANT EFFORTS ·Wang Laboratories - Design
Consultant/Project Manager:Designed and managed the implementation of
a law office automation project involving Novell Netware, Tricord super
servers, MS Windows for Workgroups, PC DOCs Open, image and OCR scanning, and
the suite of Microsoft Windows applications. I was responsible for
integration of a Novell IPX and SCO UNIX TCP/IP network. The PC DOCs Open
application used a Sybase SQL database NLM. Developed a MS Windows based
forms system to assist the law firm in handling RTC (Resolution Trust matters
that directly affected their revenue stream. This was a $225,000
engagement in a firm desperate for a migration strategy from previous
mini-based systems. ·Wang Laboratories - System
Consultant: A migration
planning project for a 400 user law firm (one of Atlanta's top 25). The firm
has both LAN and mini-based systems. The LANs and applications are DOS based.
The firm utilized my skills to plan all the steps necessary to move the firm
to an MS Windows based client workstation system. The applications involved were
WP, DBMS, EMAIL, calendaring, document management, document assembly, case
management, and litigation support. Litigation support included full text
search and document image retrieval capabilities. ·Wang Laboratories - Project Manager: An application design/implementation
project for the Atlanta office of Nations Bank - Trust Department. I was
responsible for needs analysis, functional requirement definition, and
application system design. The system was MS Windows based and used a SQL
based document management based front end with image manipulation built
around the TMS View Director API set. The systems had an optical jukebox
attached to a Novell Netware file server and the optical media that appeared
as Netware mountable volumes. Scanner support was included for Fujitsu and HP

Participated with Microsoft as a keynote breakout session speaker at their
Business Solutions Conference while here in Atlanta. Only two local firms
were asked to participate at this level. I spoke of the MS Windows for

Put on a solutions seminar, sort of a "mini-COMDEX", titled:
"The Next Generation Law Office". This was my brainchild, and I had

represented to the law customer the total solution, from work applications,
training, to wide area connectivity and the platforms (superserver
